A terrorist group used AI to jump a trench. A chatbot allegedly ran a Florida man like an intelligence asset. Only one of those is a counterterrorism problem we know how to solve.
If something can be exploited, it will be. AI has beneficial and baneful potential. What happened in this scenario is only the beginning.
I’m reminded of something that John Douglas, FBI (Ret.) Behavioral Science Division, once said:
“If you can imagine it, someone has already done it.”
AI is known to hallucinate, take the initiative to delete a company’s data in its entirety, and convince some to commit suicide. Now add espionage and terrorism to the mix. Truly, the Djinn has left the cavern and skitters about on the internet.
'AI acted as an operational assistant to terrorism or mass violence, across at least 11 tools, linked to more than 70 deaths.'
This is scary as hell.
Very alarming.
