Welcome to Dexter Ingram: Declassified
Field-tested insights on national security, intelligence, and coalition leadership
For more than three decades, I served on the front lines of America's national security mission. I've worked in war zones and embassies, in intelligence briefings and on midnight calls when the stakes could not have been higher. I've built alliances with partners across continents, countered threats from violent extremists of every ideology, and seen firsthand the difference between extraordinary leadership and dangerous incompetence.
I’ve also written the Amazon #1 new release, The Spy Archive: Hidden Lives, Secret Missions, and the History of Espionage.
What I have learned – from Washington to the Middle East to coalition tables around the globe – is this: national security is not a partisan game. It is a test of competence, trust, and courage.
Today, that test is being failed in ways I’ve never seen in my lifetime. We face a convergence of threats:
Authoritarianism and disinformation eroding democracy from within.
Violent extremism that knows no borders – from nation-backed terrorist attacks to lone-wolf mass shootings.
Global crises like climate change, pandemics, and resource conflicts that no nation can solve alone.
Division and mistrust that fracture the bonds we need to keep our country and our allies safe.
These challenges demand more than good intentions. They require what I’ve witnessed firsthand in successful operations around the world: teams built from people across every corner of society, whether they come from privilege or hardship, hold advanced degrees or have had limited formal education. We may have looked different, spoken differently, and thought in ways that set us apart, but together, we formed something far greater than the sum of our parts.
Teams with a variety of perspectives perform better. They make more informed decisions, resolve conflicts swiftly, and outthink our adversaries because they see problems from different angles that others miss. And, when you include different voices, you build trust with partners because it shows you’re serious about hearing all sides, not just your own. Trust builds coalitions. And coalitions are how we win, whether the fight is against terrorism, authoritarian regimes, or global instability.
That’s the foundation of everything you’ll find here at Dexter Ingram: Declassified, a platform built on field-tested insights, lived experience, and the practical solutions for coming together that we urgently need. This is not about left or right. It’s about survival. It’s about protecting the democratic values that generations before us fought to defend.
Here, you’ll find:
Behind-the-scenes stories from 30+ years in war zones, embassies, and classified briefings
Straight talk about today’s security threats, including what’s real, what’s hype, and what it means for you
Lessons from history’s spies and leaders that show how ordinary people navigated extraordinary challenges
Practical tools you can use whether you’re a college student, a government employee, or running a team
I’m not here to sugarcoat. I’m here to share what I’ve learned and have open dialogue with people who may not agree with me, because I’ve been in the rooms where decisions were made, in the moments where integrity mattered more than convenience, and in the field where the stakes were life and death.
Our mission is simple: stand against authoritarianism, bigotry, and extremism. Stand together.
Because some things should never stay classified – and the truth is one of them.
